During the summer of 2005 it seemed that the main source of information, to come out of Aruba was from the managing editor of El Diario, Jossy Mansur. Jossy is known for his weekly editorials which are often critical of the local government. He became for Aruba what it appeared Greta van Susteren was to the United States on covering the disappearance of Natalee Holloway. Jossy and Greta seemed to be at the center of this story from its inception.
For many Jossy's almost nightly appearances on each and every news show were the opportunity for the TV viewers to learn a very critical approach to the way Aruban law enforcement seemed to be investigating this case. The mere fact that Jossy seemed rather openly suspicious of Aruban efforts, would in itself, enhance his credibility way up. The American TV networks would continue to showcase Jossy as the voice of the truth. Even today after over four years, Jossy is often featured as the true voice of Aruba regarding this case.
Oddly enough though, when you would speak to anyone in Aruba, they would often shake their head about Jossy Mansur and dismiss his words as people in the states would look at a publication such as the National Enquirer. Somewhat credible shows like Court TV's Nancy Grace, Hannity and Combes, Dan Abrams of the Abram's Report, Scarborough Country, Greta van Susteren's On the Record seemed to not see the similarity between El Diario and the National Enquirer.
It would seem the end result was a new lessor form of cable news reporting. Accusations and suspicions became the mantra for the Natalee Holloway case. Allowing night after night reports of breaking news, even to the point of a confession and or a body found, when in truth there was no such breaking news at all. Also there was night after night of accusations, rumors and slanderous allegations that became the ratings war of the summer of 2005 between mainly the cable news shows. There was even the most outrageous story of all when Jamie Skeeters went on the Dr. Phil Show with total lies and deceptive reporting. And right in the middle of so many of these shows, sometimes nightly was Jossy Mansur. He became the main source for the Holloway news. Jossy is also partly responsible for investigator Art Wood being brought into this investigation. And what Jossy did not find or create Art Wood was right there adding to the confusion.
Jossy would continue with his outspoken ways against the Aruban government and even suggest a cover up. He would state again and again that Joran had confessed. When Joe Tacopina entered the case in March 2006, Jossy would often tangle with Joran's attorney. After the mainstream media seemed to back off from covering the case, Jossy would be a frequent guest on Scared Monkey Radio. It was there that he was given free reign and would state some of his most outrageous theories. Jossy seemed to have a part in the draining of the pond, finding the gardener as a witness, the landfill witness Junior, Carlos the Colombian witness, focusing on Joran's shoes and casting strong consideration of Paul van der Sloot also as a prime suspect. All these witnesses that never materialized seemed to come through Jossy Mansur' Diario doors. Jossy would be the hero to some and the devil to others, depending on which side one viewed this case.
