I make no secret that I love this dear lady. I consider her one of my closest friends. I feel blessed to know her as I did her wonderful husband Paul. I cannot even imagine the pain she is going through at this time. I think she expresses herself beautifully in these interviews. For me I felt like I was sitting right there with her, and I know it is exactly what she would have said to me. God Bless you Anita!
![]() Biography Anita van der Sloot Hugen was born in 1956 in the Netherlands. She attended the “Hogeschool voor de Kunsten”, Academy of Fine Arts in Arnhem during the period 1974-1979 and graduated with a major in Art Education and a minor in Art History. During her Masters she taught student college prep courses and adult painting classes at the Marienburg Academy in Arnhem and the “Vrije Acedemy” in Zevenaar, the Netherlands. From 1979 till 1990 she taught full time middle and high school art at the Lorentz college in Arnhem which had an international department. She took calligraphy classes with the famous Alexander Verberne and several theatre/scenery design classes . The last one with Joe Miklojcik in Access last year. In 1990 she came to Aruba with her family. After teaching adult classes at home, she became more and more involved with the International School of Aruba and was hired in 1991 for their Fine Arts department. At the end of 2007, she attended glass bead workshops with Marian Abath in Aruba. This developed into a passion for glass and she now has her own small glass studio with her own equipment. Next to teaching, painting, mixed media techniques, altering books and working with glass, Anita keeps experimenting with new techniques and materials. 1979 Solo exhibition “ De Vrije Akademie” the Netherlands 1993 Solo exhibition “ ABN AMRO bank “ Aruba 2008 Solo exhibition “ Gallery Mar Azul” Aruba Anita participated in several group exhibitions, designed costumes and sceneries for theatre and gave several workshops in Caracas and Valencia, Venezuela. The last demonstration she gave was at Paseo Herencia, Aruba in November 2008 where she showed the process of glass beading. Together with other artists she sold her glass jewelry as a fundraiser for the donkey Sanctuary and the Terrafuse foundation. |
