What was this Aruban dog and pony show all about? It would seem that it was just the Dutch who are new to the investigation taking a fresh look at old information and perhaps had a potentially new spin or hope that this time something would stick. John Q Kelly would call it a "Hail Mary Pass," prior to the promised closing of the case at the end of 2007.
By December 18, 2007 Aruban prosecutors would say that they would be closing an active investigation of the Holloway case. Not exactly sure what they had expected with all this, a confession? Natalee was still missing and in reality with all this pomp and circumstance they still had "no evidence of a crime."
Just about the time the case seems to fizzle out in 2007 events in January of 2008 would again put this right back in the for front of the media eye. Joran van der Sloot would appear with his parents on a Dutch television program with Peter de Vries. Following the Pauw & Witteman show, with the cameras still running, they would capture Joran tossing wine into the face of Peter de Vries. Again Joran becomes the focal point of another round of media blitz. Natalee's family and others would feel that Joran's rude behavior on the show only proves again what kind of young man he really is. Of course the events of the wine toss would just be the tip of the iceberg for what was shortly to be revealed by Peter de Vries.
Wednesday November 21, 2007 could very well be an historic day in the Natalee Holloway investigation. After 2 1/2 years of really no solid news, the whispers were in late afternoon that indeed all three of the suspects that had been held early on were all again arrested. The word was that the Kalpoe brothers were arrested in Aruba at the same time Joran was arrested in his college home of Arnhem in The Netherlands.
No one was expecting this news. It would seem it would come as a shock to the family of Natalee and even Joran's U. S. attorney Joe Tacopina was caught completely by surprise. What could have happened all of a sudden to cause this very unexpected happening, in this most unusual case?
