The media following the media, oh the irony!
|
Our trip to Aruba was a bit distressing for many reasons — one of which was that we were constantly being watched or pursued. For the most part, we assume it was local media wanting the pic of Beth in Aruba…but even that is questionable. We literally got chased. It was odd. Many people in Aruba sure don’t like us…and tried to make our trip uncomfortable. I confronted one guy who was rather bold and he told me he was from the media. I said, “fine, I will make it easy for you to get a picture of Beth, but show me your press credentials.” He said he did not have them with him….I pushed and said, “where do you work?” He gave me two different stories within 30 seconds of each other. I then became suspicious of him…and backed off…he chased us in a car as did many others in cars with walkie talkies etc…it was odd that we were the pursued since we would have been happy to talk to them…..we just wanted to make sure we knew who they were….if just the media, great…..we like the “free promo” for our show…(yes, I confess…I am in the media usually trying to find out stuff…and armed with handy cams etc…….) Our purpose for the trip was to do what all good reporters, investigators do: go over the facts, revisit places to see what you missed before…. |
