The prosecutors office issued this statement about the arrest of Paul van der Sloot. "Under Aruban law, if there is reasonable suspicion, our office can order a suspect held as long as 48 hours, after that a judge's decision is required to keep them in jail longer." Marianne Croes, prosecution spokesperson said that the father was arrested at about 2 P.M. on suspicion of involvement in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway. That was all the office cared to comment on at that time.

from attorneys and family members.
Natalee's family showed true relief after the arrest of Paul van der Sloot. Marcia Twitty, Natalee's aunt said, we are very relieved by the judge's arrest, perhaps now we can get somewhere and finally get these answers that we all so desperately want. Marcia Twitty said that after meeting with the Van Der Sloots, the missing girl's mother told her that she feels like the dad knows something about where Natalee is. "She is in very close contact with officials, both Aruban and FBI," she said. "They talk daily."
Dave Holloway said, "the arrest just adds that additional piece to the puzzle. How big is the puzzle? I do not know, but the pieces are falling into place and falling into place very quickly."
Beth Holloway Twitty will say after the arrest of Paul van der Sloot, "we are pleased that the investigation is progressing, and we feel like this will lead to more information to give us the answers we need to find our Natalee." Beth adds that she is sure that the four men in custody even thought they are not formally charged, have much more information to offer this investigation. "I have no doubt that they know what and who and where and when and why and how! I have no doubt about any of that, said Beth on NBC's "Today Show." "There are some other individuals to be pursued, she added. Twitty said that when she met with the parents of Joran van der Sloot she came away from that meeting with the confirmation that there are more individuals that need to be pursued. Beth says that she has seen no evidence that her daughter is dead.
The family of Natalee Holloway would now become more vocal in their frustration about the way the case was being handled. They would show this displeasure in a couple different ways. During the week of June 20, 2005 they would announce that they were preparing a lawsuit to demand the release of the evidence in the case. Through an Alabama lawyer which they have retained they will be demanding to have access to all information and potential evidence that police and prosecutors have gathered.
