Anita will insist that her husband has done nothing wrong and that Aruban authorities arrested him because they were under pressure. "My husband is a man of integrity who has been working in the justice system 15 years and was taken without evidence," she said. Anita goes on to say that Paul is "the most honest, beautiful man. "How can this happen? This is not about Natalee anymore. It is about enormous pressure from the United States and the media," she said.
Part of the problem for Joran seems to be the changing of his story from dropping Natalee off at the Holiday Inn and now saying that the Kalpoes left Joran and Natalee at the beach. Anita will acknowledge that Joran has in fact changed his story, and now says he was with Natalee alone on the beach. "He says, 'Mom, I dropped the girl at the beach. I walked with her. I left her there because she wanted to stay there. I left and I don't know what happened. There my statement ends,'" Anita van der Sloot said. When asked if Joran had changed his initial story, she replied, "Joran changed his story only one time. I think he was scared because he sneaked out of the house that evening. I think he was scared and wanted to cover other people too. He changed his story once and added details."
In a very candid interview with Greta van Susteren Antonio Carlo responds to the arrest of his clients father. He speaks of him as a man with much integrity and seemed quite shocked that Paul had been arrested.
The prosecutors office issued this statement about the arrest of Paul van der Sloot. "Under Aruban law, if there is reasonable suspicion, our office can order a suspect held as long as 48 hours, after that a judge's decision is required to keep them in jail longer." Marianne Croes, prosecution spokesperson said that the father was arrested at about 2 P.M. on suspicion of involvement in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway. That was all the office cared to comment on at that time.
Natalee's family responds to the arrest of Paul van der Sloot. Larry King leads the discussion with Robin and Dave Holloway, Natalee's aunt Marcia Twitty and Marianne Croes explains the government position.
