During the days of the summer there would be rampant speculation about "hits" on various points of the island by the search teams. Here is a sample of such that would be part of the "breaking news," on the nightly networks and also on line. This was part of the ongoing coverage at Riehl World View posted by Dan Riehl on June 27, 2005.

Just had a communication from Aruba - search dogs have gotten a "hit" in quarry near the Van der Sloot house, dive team being rounded up. As posted yesterday, today's grids covered areas more accessible for the boys working on a tight timeline. I'm told there will be a press conference at PM. Also, dogs said to not false alarm for nonhuman remains. Appears find is in very deep water of quarry, quarry was once drained and a corpse suspected to have been there for approximately ten years was discovered at that time. Correction - quarry was low as result of drought when previous remains were discovered. It was not drained. |
Aruba on Thursday was awaiting the deployment of another contingent of Dutch Marines to assist with the search for Holloway. The Netherlands agreed Wednesday to assign the Marines to the search, joining several hundred others stationed on the island who have been looking.
Also scouring the island is a team of search specialists that arrived last weekend. The volunteer group, Texas EquuSearch has sent some searchers home, as well as several cadaver dogs, but expects to have new volunteers arrive to continue the search.
