Joseph Tacopina founded the Law Offices of Joseph Tacopina, P.C. in 1994. After serving as a prosecutor, Mr. Tacopina chose to bring his talents to the criminal defense bar. Having tried more than 80 cases at the age of 38, Mr. Tacopina has earned the media' s praise as the "hottest young criminal defense lawyer" in New York.
Because of his extensive litigation experience in both federal and state courts and his successes in some very high profile cases, Mr. Tacopina frequently appears as an expert legal analyst on various media outlets nationwide. He can regularly be seen on MSNBC, CNBC, NBC, ABC, Fox News, CNN, Court TV, and even occasionally takes his licks on “Imus in the Morning”.
Mr. Tacopina is a member of the Federal Bar Council, the New York Counsel of Defense Lawyers, and the Judicial Committee for the Association of the Bar of the City of New York. He also serves on the Legislative Committee for the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Additionally, Mr. Tacopina volunteers his time as an adjunct professor at Fordham Law School and lectures nationwide on a variety of legal issues, including Medicaid fraud and trial advocacy. He was also recently honored by the Italian American Bar Association, and is the basis for the fictional attorney on the CBS show The Guardian.
One of the worst days in the lives of Joran, Paul & Anita van der Sloot, might have turned out to be a blessing in disguise as it brought attorney Joe Tacopina onto their defense team. The families of Natalee with Beth & Jug Twitty and Dave & Robin Holloway would join together represented by John Q Kelly and file what would be called the New York lawsuit against the Van der Sloots. In this lawsuit Deepak and Satish Kalpoe were not named.
For months the media such as Nancy Grace and Greta van Susteren had allowed nonstop accusations against the Prime Suspects. Almost immediately Joe Tacopina took charge, with a passion of defending his client on all the cable news shows. Finally some of the accusations by Beth and Natalee's other family members would begin to be checked. Jossy Mansur the editor of Aruba's Diario is another media person Joe would tangle with over his outlandish charges against his client. After Joe Tacopina enters the case things would be forever changed.
