After Guido's release they search his Aruban home

Here is a summary I wrote back when this program aired on May 23, 2006. Greta Van Susteren hosted On the Record.

Joining Greta that day were Tito Lacle, Gerard Spong's interview with Fox in Holland, Joe Tacopina and Beth Twitty.

Tito Lacle from Aruba

Tito Lacle says that Guido is a free man and plans to go back to his life. First he is going to try and continue taking the final exams that he missed. When responding to Greta's question about why he was actually arrested, since he had already been questioned several times last summer and again in Holland, Tito says that it was based on several witness accounts that claimed he was involved with Natalee Holloway. Last week based on this he went from a witness to a suspect, when they decided to detain him. Greta felt that was pretty lame as she called it. In the sense that they would pick him up based on these witnesses and then they do not even go to Court with this, but release him. Legally, Tito says that they still think he is a suspect but they do not have anything that would convince a judge to keep him in jail. They do not want to loose face.

Tito does break the news however that today they did search Guido's home and confiscated some items. Tito says it may be that we have not heard the last of Guido Wever. Greta wanted to know if this was his home or his parents home and Tito said that he does not live alone, but with his father. It was his father's home that was searched. Greta found it extraordinary that the day he is released is the very day that they do a search on his home in Aruba.

Guido's attorney gave an interview to Fox.

Gerard Spong said that Guido is still a suspect but that is only his formal status. The evidence is so weak that there is no chance that he will ever be extradited to Aruba. Alistair asks if he has to make himself available for questioning. Spong replies that he is under no obligation to do anything. He has a right to remain silent, but he is not going to do that, he wants to help the police. He is innocent and he wants this case to be solved. He was arrested, but he is innocent, being in custody for six days and he was released.

Guido does want this case solved. When asked what his connection was to this case Spong replies that he has none. He was working at the casino. He had never seen Natalee nor Joran his friend during that night. He was doing his job at the casino that is all. He is a friend of Joran's and it is probably for that reason that he was brought in. He never had any contact with Natalee.

When asked why he was picked up in the first place Spong says that he first became a witness last June. He gave five statement three in Aruba and two in Holland. Months later apparently several witnesses came forward to say that there were scratches on his face some 6 cm long and very deep. These looked to be caused by human finger nails. It is very strange that these statements came in 9 months after the fact. He was questioned on Aruba three days after Natalee disappeared and nobody back then saw these scratches. His tennis instructor that saw him every day that week reported no scratches.

This story by these witnesses is a fake story. The prosecution came up with the idea that because he wore makeup he could cover up the scratches. The other argument was that he was driving a white car. This was seen by the place where Natalee disappeared. Spong says that half of Aruba drives white cars because it is a sunny island. It is normal in the tropics and this too is a very weak argument.
