I can't say I'm surprised. If you try to live a contradiction it's bound to catch up with you sooner or later.

So it seems the troubles that have been brewing away under the surface at BFN have finally boiled over.

FoB has a thread containing the bloodletting that has been going on over at Easywriter's blog while BFN has been down. And it's not a pretty sight or site.

As far as I can work out, in the midst of everybody calling everybody else "bashers" and "haters", the venom appears to be directed inward toward fellow members of HMI for a change, and not at J2K, Aruba, or even other blogs.

It seems that BFN is associated with Robin Holloway, while SM is associated with Beth Twitty, and there is deep-seated antipathy between these two women and their respective cheer squads. None of them actually give a rat's arse what actually happened to Natalee any more.

The details of who did what to whom are of no importance outside their cesspit, but there are a few observations on the carnage that are worth repeating, so I've compiled a little 'best of' (and apologise for losing track of some of the attributions, but you can still find them at FoB if scatology is your thang).

The Natalee Holloway disppearance has been a magnet it seems for:
Religious Kooks, Frauds, Liars, Dimwits, Xenophobes, and Jingoists.

Frequently, these ingredients are brewed together on Natalee 'support' blogs such as BFN, into a wretched and sanctimonious goulash of 'Ugly Americanism'.

Forums like FOB can only sit back an observe this insanity in action. All you can do is laugh at it, and shake your head. Some of these folks at BFN ( who are clearly lost causes ) aren't capable of reasoned thought. Their minds are poisoned beyond repair.

Those attacks reek of a type of 'Ugly Americanism' that bristles Non-American's such as myself, and for that reason...I feel compelled to maintain my disdain of such behaviour. I don't view all Americans as being Ugly Americans. But, clearly 'Ugly-Americanism' rooted in xenophobia and jingoism poisons the minds of many folks who post on some Natalee Holloway related blogs.

My two cents worth.
It has always been a curiosity that Communists, Christians, and Muslims of differing stripe, M-L v Trots, Prottos v Micks, Sunnis v Shia, seem to hate their fellow travellers with much more murderous intensity than *between* such groups.

Here I think the clue is also doctrinal purity and a paranoid fear of diversity - "I'm more pro-Natalee than you are!". You can't be friends with someone who is paranoid because ultimately everyone, even their nearest and dearest, are The Enemy and out to get them.

When I write that Beth has lied her face off I am an external "enemy" of HMI, but when Ramm expresses even mild skepticism about Beth's truthfulness from within HMI he is a traitor in their midst, a fifth-columnist who has crept in to the sanctum sanctorum under their guard and to be rooted out as a rotten apple in the name (and reinforcement) of their own idiological purity.

In that way the value of being a member of the in-crowd is reinforced - something very typical of cults.

But in blogs such as RU, FoB, and Scrux quite a different dynamic of disagreement between posters has evolved. Some think she is alive, others sure she is dead; some think Joran is suspect, others sure he isn't (while trolls like Wabbi don't think at all).

But for the most part it seems the posters to these blogs don't feel THREATENED by differing opinions; that, like me, they wouldn't be happy to be proven wrong, but their personal worlds wouldn't collapse on account of it.

If we conduct a mind-experiment where tomorrow a) Joran confesses to killing Natalee, or b) where Natalee turns up alive and well, we could ask what would be the general reaction of pro-Joran posters compared to pro-Family posters - which group would be the more upset, feel more betrayed?

My own reaction to (a) would be to shrug, then ask myself some hard questions about how I could have so seriously mis-interepreted the information before me; and in case (b) I'd be inclined to scold her, then take her out to dinner to celebrate her safe return. But I would also be fearful that some fanatical HMI nutjob like Deech or Zoltan would be out to kill her for shattering their illusions.

So my short answer to medleyrelay's question is that HMI have a huge personal investment in the case, flowing from the trust they invest in authority figures such as TV's talking heads being a source of dependable truth. Non-HMI seem to be more skeptical, and more personally self-sufficient.

To take a.incanada's point about "Christians"; the same paradox can be seen in Creationism/ID where theologians recognise the danger in seeking proof of God as undermining the mystery of faith, and that finding such proof would reduce God to the mundane. Just as these necrophilic "Christians" turned me into an atheist, so the fanatics of HMI will make people doubt Joran's guilt.

In that, I have faith.

You are several times more likely to become a victim of murder or rape in Florida than Aruba. The so called "War on Drugs" pushed on the rest of the world by the US has not only been lost, it has actually made the drug situation very much WORSE. Seven million in US prisons, mostly black, mostly for drugs, and no end in sight.

And since you quote unsigned PV's, I'll point out that Lee Broughton's SIGNED FBI302 statement contradicts her later statements on AMW about going directly to bed after C&C's.

She is, in a word, a LIAR.

Now why would Lee lie about this? Why was her being out and about in the area at the time seen as significant enough to "hush up"? What did Lee witness that gave her "flashbacks" for months afterward?

Far too many are still "stuck on perp" and fail to recognise the very real possibility that Natalee drowned, either by accident or even suicide, and that Natalee herself could just as easily be the "perp".
