Permalink Chapter: eleven

As they say, "the jig is up!"

It would not take very long for the FBI 302's that Greta manage to have in full view of her television audience to be enhanced and the word of Natalee's drinking habits to be well known to those that follow this case. Red Fires for breakfast would be the new "character for Natalee Holloway." And while no one would ever say that drinking to excess means a person deserves to die, it does certainly change the way many would now see this investigation. No more Miss Perfect. The words of Deepak Kalpoe would come to mind about little "Miss Goody Two Shoes!" One might say that we had been lead down a primrose path with this no drinking for Natalee. And lets be honest here, one does not just start drinking to excess on a vacation without some strong foundation of drinking prior to travelling to Aruba. One needs to build up some tolerance before you can just start chugging 151 and Red Bull from sunrise to sunset.

Many people could not believe the unfairness of it all. For weeks and weeks we kept seeing the pictures of Joran with a drink in hand portraying him as some teen alcoholic that seemed to be partying night after night, underage. Oh yes the word underage attached to Joran was a really big deal. But who was the underage drinker here? In Aruba, there really is not the same laws for drinking that there are in the States. In Aruba you can drink at age 17 legally. Joran was of age to be drinking in his country. Now, Natalee and the other Mt. Brook teens were not. They most likely had chosen Aruba for their celebratory vacation spot with that very purpose in mind. They were part of a growing number of underage drinkers that find the other countries laws more acceptable when it comes to drinking and drugs. Whoo Hoo Aruba!

The question remains though why did they lie? Why did the parents and step parents of Natalee lie about her use of alcohol? Did Beth, Jug, Dave and Robin not know? Why did the friends of Natalee keep saying they all drank responsibly? What exactly does that mean, that they were not falling down drunk in their tracks?

What does drinking responsibly mean? Why the fabrication about the Red Fires? The first lies were to say she was not drinking at all. Then they finally had to admit under oath to the FBI that there was drinking from dusk to dawn. But they still felt the need to misrepresent what she was drinking. They could have said Rum and coke if it was Rum and coke. But they all used the wording "Red Fires," This means Red Bull and that means trouble. How much trouble, well let us look at the history and concerns of mixing alcohol with the lethal stimulant Red Bull. After you read about the dangers it will be very clear why they were all lying about so very many things, not just Natalee's character.

Listen to Greta speak of the "Red Fires!"
