Thus after several days of fun in the sun, these Mountain Brook teens were expected that May 31st morning to appear in the lobby of the Holiday Inn by 10:30 A.M. to prepare for their journey home. One young blond face, of a supposedly shy girl named Natalee Holloway never did join her group, that morning. What became of her? And why if this was a crime is there no evidence?
It was assumed at first that she had merely stayed the night in another room with other friends. Her roommates apparently gathered up her belongings of luggage, purse, cell phone and passport and brought it down to the lobby in preparation for the journey home. The buses were loading and questions were beginning, where was Natalee and why was she not with her group? Her friends said she had last been seen leaving Carlos 'n Charlies with a local boy.
Still not believing anything could really be amiss the students and most of the chaperones would go off to the airport, so not to miss their flight back home. Since several of the chaperones had been on this trip before without any incidents, they continued with their normal routine. The other remaining chaperones gathered Natalee's belongings and returned them to her room, in case she came back to the hotel.
Many questions were going through the minds at this time. Perhaps Natalee had just overslept somewhere else. Maybe she was embarrassed by a wrong choice of youth and not ready to return. No one can really speculate as to what thoughts had to be going through the minds of those worried chaperones and friends as they kept waiting for their girl to return. Because her friends immediately returned home to Alabama it would be months before they gave FBI 302 statements. Still there seemed to be some who refused to even give statements and many would question why. Even four years later Natalee is still missing and no one has any answers it would seem.

It has been reported that approximately 11:30 A.M. that morning, after the students had left for the airport, the local police were first notified. A member of the beach patrol was also contacted. The Holiday Inn hotel staff was also involved those first hours, trying to be as helpful as possible. At some point Natalee's family was contacted. As with many things in this case, there have been others that have reported, the exact time the Aruban police were notified differently.
Time would pass, and Natalee the young teen from Alabama did not reappear. Where was she? It would not take too long before words about who she really was, would be formulated. Her family and friends would state emphatically that she was very popular. They would add that she was respected by fellow classmates and had an excellent reputation with her fellow classmates. Her peers thought she was quite intelligent and was focused on her future. This was to be a very bright future indeed, as she had graduated with honors from Mt. Brook Highs School. It was said she was on her way to the University of Alabama on a full ride scholarship and hoped to be Premed, with a possible career as a "pediatrician." Some believe that there was concerted effort to "establish Natalee's character," early on as flawless!
What exactly was this group of 124 teens from Mountain Brook doing the week prior to Natalee Holloway going missing? Natalee's mother and family tried to immediately paint a picture of her being the perfect young lady.
