According to her mother, Natalee was a typical American teenager, perhaps more driven than most, a fixture on Mountain Brook High's dance team, and who, Beth insists never drank, never had a boyfriend, and never had sex. She is emphatic about this. Left unsaid is the assumption that this gave Natalee little experience in the kind of tequila-fueled revelry for which Aruba is famous. "Natalee was very smart, but," Beth acknowledges, "very naive." Still, Beth had no doubts about letting her daughter go on the Aruba trip. It was something of a tradition at Mountain Brook High School, and Jug's son, George, had been several years earlier. On Thursday, May 26, Beth dropped Natalee at a friend's house at four A.M. for the flight to Aruba. She promised to pick her up at the airport the following Monday night. It was the last time she saw her daughter. |
An honor student with a scholarship could not possibly be doing anything but tanning, dancing and possibly a little bit of social drinking - right? She of course was a virgin who never drank to excess and certainly did not use drugs. She was supposed to be rather naive about life and her mother admits maybe not ready to partake in this teen adventure outside of the United States. It has been stated that "Natalee was a well-traveled teenager." Supposedly she had traveled to Europe and Canada, according to family spokeswoman and aunt, Marcia Twitty. This is what she shared with ABC's "Good Morning America." Marcia would also add that Natalee Holloway would not get into a car with strangers. "This is totally, totally out of character for Natalee," Marcia said.
On the following page is a televised report (on Youtube) where Natalee was called "perfect." This was one of many such broadcasts.
